Over the coming months we’ll be putting faces to names and giving you an insight into the members of our CAD team. First up, it’s manager, Mark, who’s been with DATS for three years and loves mountain biking in Morzine.
Mark, tell us a bit about your role at DATS
As CAD Manager, I’m responsible for overseeing all CAD jobs that come in – from initial enquiries through to completion. I look after the CAD admin as well as the team and their training and development.
And how long have you been in CAD and what attracted you to it?
I’ve been working in CAD for 15 years now. I’ve a degree in Multimedia Design but originally, I’m a time-served PVC fabricator/installer. I was initially attracted to the industry, and am still excited about, how quickly technology advances. I enjoy how there’s always new ways to both interact and use different pieces of equipment to feed into CAD models, for instance, Point Cloud Scanning and VR technology.
What’s the best part of your role and working for DATS?
In regards to the role it’s definitely the variation in projects. DATS doesn’t specialise in one specific area, so we get a lot of interesting (and often challenging!) projects through the door – from large, high profile construction projects, to individuals who have a product design concept and want to bring it to life. As for DATS, I’m proud to work for an organisation that’s been in business for so long (almost 60 years). It also has an incredibly supportive culture and I like how forward thinking they are.
Any interesting facts about yourself?
I’ve two actually – the first is that I once modelled sunglasses for a major fashion magazine and I also met Cristiano Ronaldo in a bar in Bali – which just happens to be a favourite holiday destination of mine.
