In May 2015 DATS were awarded the contract to 3D coordinate the MEP services at the University of Liverpool’s new Materials Innovation Factory (MIF) building. https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/materials-innovation-factory/
Our initial remit was to produce from tender stage drawings a fully coordinated plantroom, fully coordinated risers, builders work drawings and the as fitted drawings. Also we were due to produce 2D coordinated sections at fixed points on each floor to aid the installation but as the project progressed it soon became apparent that the level of information on these sections wouldn’t be enough for the complicated installation so we were then asked to fully coordinate all the M&E services in 3D and produce the relevant installation drawings for each service.
Throughout the project we worked under instruction from our client but also attended site co-ordination meetings where all the relevant consultants/contractors were present.
The project was completed using both Revit MEP and NavisWorks. The latter being a valuable tool especially at coordination meetings where we could visually present our findings in a ‘live’ environment on the issues that arose when coordinating.
