BIM Coordination 1

Background

In June 2015 DATS were awarded the contract to undertake the 3D coordination of MEP Services and issue of installation drawings for the basement plant room, ground floor and risers at the XYZ Building, Spinningfields, Manchester. http://thexyzbuilding.com/

Challenge

The building was designed to promote a sophisticated specification and with this in mind the high quality services were mostly left exposed to serve as a design feature as well as their intended function. This proved quite challenging as we were quite limited with the amount of deviation we could take with the services.

Solution

Using a combination of Revit MEP, Navisworks and site visits we were able to complete the project within the 20 month timeframe whilst also keeping to some very tight deadlines. This lead onto us being awarded the tenant fit out contract for levels 2-4 along with producing and encapsulating all the schematic/flow diagrams for the plant and switch rooms.

Outcome

Beginning with tender stage drawings the team was able to 3D coordinate and issue installation/manufacture drawings for each individual service up to as fitted.
2D AutoCAD was used to produce schematic diagrams and basic flow diagrams for display in plantrooms and switch rooms.
